Privacy

Accounts are optional. Everything works without signing in, with all data kept on your device. An invite-only Google sign-in exists for syncing saved profiles and account defaults across devices.

If you sign in (currently invite-only), saved profiles and non-location preferences sync to the server. Profiles store only a label plus the derived bird — or nakshatra and paksha — and account preferences store language, theme, and default bird. New default locations stay in your passphrase-protected local vault. If an older version saved a default location to your account, it remains there until you unlock the vault online; it is then encrypted on this device and removed from synced preferences. Birth dates and times are never synced. Period alerts are separate and store only the location rounded to roughly 1 km, as described below.

Birth details and precise location are sent in POST request bodies to calculate your requested result. They are not retained afterward, written to application logs, sent to analytics, or included in shareable links. If an older version saved an account default location on the server, it is moved into your encrypted private vault and the server copy is cleared after a successful vault unlock.

If you use "Use my location," your coordinates are read by your browser after you explicitly grant permission and resolved to a timezone on your device. To show a readable place name instead of a generic label, those coordinates are also sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to look up a name — this only happens after your click, and only for that lookup; if it fails, a generic label is shown instead. Searching for a place by name sends only the text you typed to a different geocoding service (Open-Meteo), never your device's location.

If you enable period alerts, our server stores this device's push address, your bird (or nakshatra and paksha), a location rounded to roughly 1 km, and your alert settings — never your birth date, time or exact coordinates. Disabling alerts deletes all of it immediately.

What's stored in your browser

Only non-sensitive preferences are saved in clear text on your device: your chosen language, light/dark theme, and last-selected bird. If you create the private-data vault, recent birth details, precise locations, and cached schedules are encrypted with your passphrase and are unavailable until you unlock it. Your passphrase is never stored. You can download or restore only the encrypted vault data; the backup cannot be opened without its original passphrase.
